As part of our commitment to keeping you informed about the Glencoe Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan, we’re pleased to share the latest developments in the project process.
Glencoe Beach Assessment:
The Glencoe Beach assessment is currently in progress, and it plays a pivotal role in shaping the overall Comprehensive Plan. Our team is identifying issues and opportunities related to beach usage, programming, accessibility, as well as social and environmental impacts. Recognizing the beach as a major asset, we are dedicated to ensuring it continues to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Parks & Facilities Assessment:
Simultaneously, the Parks & Facilities assessment is also underway. This process involves a comprehensive evaluation of existing conditions and patterns of use across our parks and facilities. This thorough examination will guide us in making informed decisions to enhance and optimize our parks and recreational spaces.
Community Survey:
Your input is invaluable to us, and we appreciate the responses we’ve received so far. The community survey was mailed to Glencoe Park District residents the week of November 27, and we encourage everyone to participate. The survey will remain open for responses until January 15th. Your feedback is crucial in shaping the future of our parks, recreation services, and recreation facilities.
Upcoming Community Engagement:
We understand the importance of keeping the community involved in the planning process. To provide you with an opportunity to gather, provide input, and receive updates on the project, we are planning a community engagement event in late winter/early spring 2024. Stay tuned for details regarding dates and location. Your participation in these events is vital to ensuring that the Comprehensive Plan aligns with the aspirations and needs of the Glencoe community.
We thank you for your ongoing support and engagement in this important endeavor. Together, we are building a future where our parks, recreation services, and recreational spaces contribute to the well-being and enjoyment of all residents.

Glencoe Park District aspires to be the most innovative, customer-driven, financially and environmentally sustainable park district for current and future generations. In collaboration with the consulting firm 110% we will be developing a new Comprehensive Plan that will shape the future of the District. There will be a focus and acknowledgment of the unique attributes of Glencoe, honoring the past while reflecting on the changing community and the needs of those we serve. This Plan will guide decision making and not only align with existing plans including the 2015 Master Plan and 2018 Strategic Plan, but also complement them.
The plan will focus on the following:
- parks
- programs
- facilities
- safety & security
- finance
- sustainability
- partnerships
An integral part of this planning effort is community engagement. Through public meetings, focus groups, surveys, and other outreach methods, we seek to include representative community feedback in the decision-making process. We value the input of our residents and stakeholders and aim to incorporate their perspectives and aspirations into the plans.
Furthermore, the Comprehensive Plan will be grounded in fiscal responsibility. We will ensure that the recommendations put forth consider the community’s needs and interests, as well as the District’s operating and maintenance requirements, while aligning with the fiscal realities of the District. By striking a balance between community aspirations and financial feasibility, we can create sustainable and fiscally sound plans for the benefit of all.
Together, this plan will help us to build upon attributes that create a thriving and inclusive community for everyone to enjoy.
Building upon its history of extensive community engagement, the Glencoe Park District’s Comprehensive Planning Process is set to usher in a new era of community engagement and collaboration. The district recognizes the pivotal role public input plays in shaping the future of its parks and recreation services. To ensure inclusivity and gather diverse perspectives, a multifaceted approach to soliciting feedback will be adopted. Surveys will be distributed to gauge the preferences, desires, and expectations of the residents. In addition, interactive public workshops will serve as informative platforms, enlightening participants about the district’s current initiatives, while also providing them with an opportunity to voice their opinions. These events aim to foster a two-way exchange of ideas, enriching the understanding of the park district and refining its direction. Through this holistic strategy, the Glencoe Park District aspires to create a plan that resonates with its community, reflecting the collective vision and aspirations for its cherished recreational spaces.
